Teaching philosophy

My journey with the piano started at age four when I began Suzuki piano lessons.  I teach using the Suzuki approach because it honors the potential of all children to succeed when continuously supported by both parents and knowledgeable teachers.  This approach fosters musicality and the development of personal character through challenging repertoire and parent-child collaboration.

While the Suzuki method emphasizes learning by listening throughout the student’s training, I introduce music reading skills from the first lesson through pre-reading activities in ways that are developmentally appropriate for the student.  When students are ready, they begin to study supplementary material in addition to the Suzuki repertoire. I strive to make every lesson meaningful and positive for parent and child with the understanding that every child develops at a unique pace.

The Suzuki method believes that, given the right training and environment, all children can be successful players just as all children learn their native language.
