2009 Summer Program
Summer 2009 at Monroe Street Fun! Arts Center
From June 15-August 15, MSFAC presents week-long 2 ½ hour art camps, one each morning and afternoon for ages 5-7 and 8-10. The cost is $130 for each camp. Register at msfac.org or 232.1510.
MSFAC will also be offering two special programs this summer: Fabric Landscapes and Fairytale Theatre.
For 5-7 year olds
Monday, August 17 – Friday, August 21
9:00-11:30AM #1000 (CLOSED)
Boats that Float—In this summertime favorite students construct miniature sea-worthy vessels using a variety of materials. AND Construction Zone—Students are both architects and builders in this imaginative and fun class.
1:00-3:30PM #1002 (CLOSED)
Robots and Space Aliens—Design your own robots and “out of this world” aliens using recycled materials. AND Become Your Own Superhero—Create your own super powers and costumes, then explore your newfound abilities through imaginative play.
Monday, August 24 – Friday, August 28

Make a Musical Instrument—Use a variety of materials to create your own musical instruments. AND Silly Symphony—While listening to classical music, students will be inspired to create works of art!

Pet Portraits—Real (or imagined) pets will be the subject of portraiture in a variety of media. AND Printmaking—Experiment with different types of printmaking, using potatoes and other materials to make interesting prints.
For 8-10 year olds

Beads, Bangles, and Bracelets— Create beads out of sculpey clay, rolled paper, and other materials. Use them to create your own colorful and unique jewelry. AND Recycled Construction— Recycled materials found throughout the center will inspire you to create unique works of art!

Artist Books— Learn how to bind and create your own book! AND Papermaking— Learn the history of papermaking and create your own paper.
Monday, August 24 – Friday, August 28

Make a Musical Instrument— Use a variety of materials to create your own musical instruments. AND Rainsticks— Hear about the history and use of rattles and rain sticks. Make and decorate your own version of this South American musical instrument.
1:00-3:30PM #1103
Radial Design— Learn about and see real examples of radial design from around the world. Create your own radial design using personal symbols on a brightly colored wheel. AND Hip Pocket Harmonica—Learn some harmonica basics such as setting a single note, using your hands, and some campfire songs. Please bring a harmonica in the key of C.
